About this deal

GameSpot shared similar criticism, noting that whilst providing "undeniable joy in winding your way through a particularly nasty stretch unscathed", the level designs—especially on harder levels and boss fights—combined with its "carefree" controls, relied too heavily on unforeseen threats and were too frustrating. Kyle Orland has been the Senior Gaming Editor at Ars Technica since 2012, writing primarily about the business, tech, and culture behind video games. Cubic Ninja could have been an amazingly addictive game, but some faulty controls and a lack of content hold it back. There are over 100 levels in the game, and players not only race through the levels but also share the results with friends to challenge them. Use the Nintendo 3DS to tilt and turn in overcoming the fatal traps and puzzles present in the Ubisoft's Cubic Ninja. When that hack was patched out in a later version of the Wii firmware, a number of other Wii hacks were developed, some of which required copies of less popular game discs. The gyrosensor controls are so badly thought out that you will find yourself resorting to the slide-pad and then even while you are not holding a direction but are instead trying to line-up a movement, your ninja will decide to move anyway and get killed. The discovery—which is the first ever public software-based homebrew exploit for the 3DS family—triggered a surge in demand for the game, whose poor reception had led to its classification as a " bargain bin" title by critics.the 3D is very weak (few deep) compared with other titles like Ridge Racer, Revelations or Super Mario. Using power-ups collected from scrolls, [3] CC can shrink, gain a shield, throw shuriken at enemies, and unlock all of the doors in a level. The game is controlled primarily using the 3DS' gyroscope, requiring the player to tilt the console in the direction they want CC to move.

The exploit, known as Ninjhax, requires users to place a boot file on the device's SD card, and then use the level sharing feature of Cubic Ninja to scan a malformed QR code. While Nintendo can and likely will update the 3DS firmware to stop this exploit, Smealum notes on Twitter that it currently works with all firmware versions on every edition of the 2DS/3DS hardware, and also stresses that the exploit can't be used to run "backups" of legitimate 3DS games, and it's only useful for running homebrew code, such as a version of Minecraft shown as a proof of concept in online photos. If you happen to pick up a copy of this, set yourself the challenge of playing it for 15 minutes when you first get it.
